Color laser printing requires significantly more from its fuser unit than traditional monochrome systems. A black-and-white printer only needs to fuse one layer of carbon black powder, while a color printer must intermix and “melt” 4 separate layers of toner (cyan – C, magenta – M, yellow – Y, and black – K). To accomplish this, color printers require precise thermal control, uniform pressure across the surface of the paper, and immediate transfer of thermal energy from the fuser to the toner layers.
