Until now, a key ingredient has been missing in baby prep: setting up the relationship… “Babyproofing Your Relationship” gives proven tools to overcome universal romantic pitfalls in early parenthood

New parents are so busy keeping the baby alive and overwhelmed with the demands of early parenthood that they often don’t notice their relationship eroding.

The Gottman Institute, the world’s foremost romantic relationship research center, says that about 70 percent of people experience significant relationship dissatisfaction after having a child. While abundant resources exist to prepare for caring for the child, almost none exists to solidify the romantic bond when the baby comes. The lack of early parenthood relationship resources presents a huge problem, as this is when the bond starts to fray. The disconnection and dissatisfaction that is often impossible to come back from.

In 2018, Aaron F. Steinberg, MA, PCC – a coach and counselor trained in couples work and complex trauma, and a parent of two boys himself–created the Babyproofing Your Relationship (BYR) course in partnership with the Bay Area, evidence-based, parent support non-profit Natural Resources. Since then, the class has been taught to hundreds of new and expecting parents, giving comprehensive preparation for this new stage of life while immediately transforming the quality of relationships for couples taking the course.

In April, 2022, Steinberg, along with Emmy-nominated filmmaker and former Producer for MasterClass Cameron Mullenneaux, released an on-demand, video-based version of the course. This new version features 15 beautifully-shot videos with graphics to enhance the learning, 16 fully guided activities to do as a couple, and over 10 downloadable resources to utilize for deepening and for reminders of the content. He even includes three coaching sessions he did with real couples about real issues, and two interviews where he and his wife, Liz, talk intimately about their own challenges and successes in the new parenthood stage after having two kids together.

According to Steinberg, “When course participants learn these tools in advance, instead of the issues unknowingly and insidiously destroying the relationship, new parents can use the journey as an opportunity to get more connected and fall more in love.”

Stephanie and Josh, both physicians balancing a heavy workload with parenting, said of their experience, “Aaron has skillfully crafted the BYR curriculum to focus on very relevant topics and exercises that improved our communication and connection right away. Using the tools has really strengthened our relationship and sense of being on the same team.”

Babyproofing Your Relationship is essential prep for expecting parents. It teaches couples to identify the five most common pitfalls of romantic relationships in early parenthood–poor communication, lack of sex and intimacy, burnout and a lack of individual needs getting met, parenting differences, and conflicting money styles–and navigate them successfully.

The course can be found at www.babyproofingyourrelationship.com for $175.
