Brisbane, Australia – Sept 15, 2026 – Kathryn Porritt, founder of Iconic Empire and the world’s leading expert on Iconic Personal Brand Strategy, is publicly advising experienced practitioners to cut the number of clients they serve, at a moment when most professional-services advice runs the other way. Porritt, whose Brisbane-based company works with experts, authors, speakers and chief executives on premium positioning, says the practitioners who thrive over the next five years will be the ones who serve fewer people at a far higher value, and that the shift produces more wealth for the practitioner, not less.
Porritt argues the luxury goods sector has already made this turn, and that expert services are late to it.
What the luxury sector is doing
Deloitte’s Global Powers of Luxury 2026 study surveyed 420 senior executives across ten countries and found the sector expecting selectivity rather than growth in units. Its executives named customer experience and loyalty as the strongest growth opportunity available to them, cited by 28.6 percent and ahead of every other option, and the study describes a market moving toward a relationship-driven model shaped by cultural relevance and trust rather than scale.

Porritt’s argument is that an expert practice is subject to the same physics as a luxury house and has simply never been run like one. Where a house protects desirability by limiting what it makes, most expert practices do the opposite, adding clients until the quality of attention each one receives is the thing quietly being rationed.
The arithmetic she publishes
Iconic Empire publishes the model it teaches. “Sell six to eight engagements a year at $250,000,” its site reads. “That is a business turning over a million and a half to two million dollars, with a handful of clients, almost no team, and margins the volume world never sees.”

Porritt is direct that the figures describe a destination rather than a starting point, and that the constraint is rarely capability.
“You are a master. You get outcomes most people cannot,” she writes. “Your finest work happens with a small number of the right people, given your full attention.”
Her clients bear the model out. Lindsay Mustain, a human resources expert who had been selling into the mass market, now describes charging “hundreds of thousands in each transaction.” Makhosi, known as the Royal Shaman, moved to $250,000 in luxury offers within weeks of repositioning.
Why she says the instinct runs the other way
Porritt attributes the reflex toward volume to a growth model borrowed from consumer businesses, in which reach is the primary asset and every additional customer is a gain. She argues that the model was designed for businesses that need many small transactions, and that it works well for them, but was never designed for practices whose product is the practitioner’s judgement, where each additional client reduces the depth available to all the others.
She is also clear that the advice is not universal. Practitioners still building a first body of work, she says, are served perfectly well by the volume route. The argument applies to people with decades of demonstrable depth who are being paid as though they were interchangeable.
Context
Porritt has spent ten years advising hundreds of experts across more than twenty-five industries. Her full treatment of the argument appears in her book, Iconic Influence, published on 9 September 2026.
