About the Translator and Author – Prof. Netiva Caftori: Prof. Netiva Caftori is an extraordinary artist of bridges and connections- linking exact science with free art, and distant cultures with deep-rooted Israeli identity. Into her impressive academic career as a Professor of Computer Science at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago , she has poured her lifelong love for painting, illustration, and writing.

Netiva, who lived in Skokie, Illinois , originally wrote and illustrated this series of stories out of a deep desire to create worlds full of magic for her daughters (Irene, Ashley, and Caroline) and the Highland School community.

Now, she brings to the craft of translating and photographing “The Mystery of the Skokie Hole” not only scientific precision, but also an intimate, close, and deep familiarity with the local landscapes and the nuances of American culture.
