When the History of the so called “Streaming Wars” is taught to future students it will show a “Tale of Two Companies”.

At the end of Q2 in 2015 Pandora had more active users worldwide that Spotify could claim. Pandora had 79.4M as opposed to Spotify’s 75M.

As they say… that was then this is now.

Then as they say a story of two strategies.

“Pandora started to contract on a worldwide basis shutting down localised operations in Australia and New Zealand effectively making it a US only service,” said music industry analyst Donald Malter, “whilst at the same time Spotify has expanded into places like India, Vietnam and the Middle East and expansion into Russia on the horizon”

According to figures published recently from Pandora’s Parent Co, SiriusXM, Pandora ended the quarter (Q3) with 63.1M users in the USA whilst Spotify recently announced that 27% of its 248M active users are based in North America thereby giving them 67M users in the US and Canada.

“It would appear,” Donald Malter went on to add, “that Pandora’s days as the largest music streaming service in the US look numbered.
